The popular Summer Reading Challenge is in full swing across Neath Port Talbot Libraries, but there is still time to get involved before it ends.
Cllr. Peter Rees, Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Culture said:
“Reading is an essential part of a child’s development. This challenge is great fun, it keeps children interested and motivated by a series of rewards as they continue to read. I am delighted that Neath Port Talbot Libraries has once again been involved in this excellent initiative.”
The popular Summer Reading Challenge has been created and promoted by the Reading Agency, an independent charity working to inspire young people to read more.
The challenge is simple! After registering with a library (if not already registered) children aged between 4 and 11 years are encouraged to read six books during the summer holidays. These could be anything from picture books to audio books. Rewards are collect along the way and include stickers, key rings and story lab wristbands. The aim is to encourage children to reach the end of their challenge when they will receive a certificate.
It’s easier than ever for library members to borrow books. Free eBooks, magazines and comics can be downloaded by anyone with a library membership card number and PIN (available from their nearest library). There are a wide range of titles available, including biographies, travel guides, latest fiction and children’s books which can be downloaded to a PC, laptop, smart phone, tablet or selected e-readers.

Amser o hyd i bobl gymryd rhan yn Sialens Ddarllen yr Haf
Mae Sialens Ddarllen yr Haf ar ei hanterth ar draws llyfrgelloedd Castell-nedd Port Talbot, ond mae amser o hyd i gymryd rhan yn y fenter boblogaidd cyn iddi ddod i ben.
Meddai'r Cyng. Peter Rees, Aelod y Cabinet dros Addysg, Sgiliau a Diwylliant,
"Mae darllen yn rhan bwysig o ddatblygiad plentyn. Mae'r sialens hon yn llawn hwyl, mae'n cadw diddordeb y plant ac yn eu hysgogi drwy gyfres o wobrau wrth iddynt barhau i ddarllen. Rwy'n falch bod llyfrgelloedd Castell-nedd Port Talbot unwaith eto wedi cymryd rhan yn y fenter ardderchog hon."
Mae'r sialens ddarllen boblogaidd wedi'i chreu a'i hyrwyddo gan yr Asiantaeth Ddarllen, elusen annibynnol sy'n gweithio i ysbrydoli pobl ifanc i ddarllen mwy.
Mae'r sialens yn syml! Ar ôl cofrestru gyda llyfrgell (os nad ydynt eisoes wedi cofrestru), anogir plant rhwng 4 ac 11 oed i ddarllen chwe llyfr yn ystod gwyliau'r haf. Gallai hyn gynnwys unrhyw beth o lyfrau lluniau i lyfrau llafar. Mae gwobrau'n cael eu casglu ar y ffordd, gan gynnwys sticeri, cylchau allweddi a bandiau arddwrn y lab straeon. Y nod yw annog plant i gyrraedd diwedd eu sialens pan fyddant yn derbyn tystysgrif.
Mae'n haws nag erioed i aelodau llyfrgell fenthyca llyfrau. Gall unrhyw un â rhif cerdyn aelodaeth llyfrgell a PIN (sydd ar gael o'r llyfrgell agosaf) lawrlwytho e-lyfrau, cylchgronau a chomics am ddim. Mae amrywiaeth eang o lyfrau ar gael, gan gynnwys bywgraffiadau, arweinlyfrau teithio, y ffuglen ddiweddaraf a llyfrau i blant, y gellir eu lawrlwytho i gyfrifiadur personol, gliniadur, ffôn clyfar, tabled neu e-ddarllenwyr dethol.
Gallwch gael mwy o wybodaeth am y sialens ddarllen neu lyfrau ar-lein, cylchgronau a chomics, ewch i www.npt.gov.uk/libraries.
Mae amrywiaeth o wasanaethau'r cyngor ar gael ar-lein yn www.npt.gov.uk. Gall pobl gofrestru i bleidleisio, archebu cyfarpar ailgylchu, talu Treth y Cyngor, archebu hawlenni parcio, adnewyddu llyfrau llyfrgell a llawer mwy! Gallwch weld rhestr lawn o wasanaethau'r cyngor drwy glicio ar y faner 'symud'.
