‘Hats off in particular to gritting crews’ says Council Leader, Rob Jones. ‘Public service at its best’.
The Council's gritting drivers have been working round the clock over the last 24hours. Conditions were particularly hazardous in the Upper Afan valley at around midnight last night, but the gritting team managed to regain access in the early hours of this morning.
Continuous gritting to the main routes will continue throughout the morning and over the next 24 hours, with hand gritting and JCB’s concentrating on side streets leading to main roads and shopping areas. 90 Neighbourhood Services staff are out around the county borough clearing snow and hand gritting. Highways and Drainage gangs are also out in JCB’s, pick-ups and tippers working with neighbourhood staff to clear snow and spread grit. All gritters are out and, depending on the forecast, will be back gritting the four main routes tonight. Grit bins are being re-filled across the county borough.
In addition, a number of fallen trees in Tonna/Clyne, the B4242 and Wern Ddu have been removed. A private tree has come down on Gilfach Road, Neath, but the roots have damaged the footpath which is being made safe and another nearby tree has also been cleared. Drifting on the access to the Gnoll has been cleared, and a large fallen beech tree is currently being removed.
Please consider whether your journey is absolutely necessary before travelling today and stay safe.
Homecare Services:
In another example of public service at its best, NPT Council Homecare staff managed to deliver all Homecare calls last night (1/3/18). The teams used four by four vehicles to reach outlying areas, and some workers made visits on foot to ensure that vital calls were made.
Some Community Care Assistants who were on their day off volunteered to cover calls that were within walking distance from their homes, and others are on standby to cover colleagues who can't get in or have to go home if the weather worsens.
Council Leader, Cllr. Rob Jones said: “Well done to all the staff for their efforts to deliver these vital services to the most vulnerable in our communities”

“Canmoliaeth arbennig i’r criwiau graeanu,” meddai Arweinydd y Cyngor, Rob Jones. “Gwasanaeth cyhoeddus ar ei orau.”
Mae gyrwyr ein cerbydau graeanu wedi bod yn gweithio’n ddi-baid dros y 24 awr diwethaf. Roedd yr amodau’n arbennig o beryglus yng Nghwm Afan Uchaf o gwmpas hanner nos neithiwr, ond llwyddodd y tîm graeanu i adfer mynediad yn ystod oriau mân bore heddiw.
Bydd y prif lwybrau yn parhau i gael eu graeanu’n barhaus drwy’r bore a thros y 24 awr nesaf, gyda gwaith graeanu â llaw a cherbydau JCB yn canolbwyntio ar strydoedd ochr ac ardaloedd siopa. Mae 90 aelod o staff y Gwasanaethau Cymdogaethau hwnt ac yma yn y fwrdeistref sirol yn clirio eira ac yn graeanu â llaw. Mae criwiau Priffyrdd a Draenio hefyd allan mewn cerbydau JCB, tryciau agored a lorïau codi yn gweithio gyda staff cymdogaethau i glirio eira a graeanu. Mae’r holl gerbydau graeanu allan ac, yn dibynnu ar y rhagolygon, byddant yn ôl yn graeanu’r pedwar prif lwybr heno. Mae biniau graean yn cael eu hail-lenwi ledled y fwrdeistref sirol.
Hefyd, mae nifer o goed a oedd wedi cwympo yn Nhonna/Clun, ar y B4242 ac yn Wern Ddu wedi cael eu clirio. Mae coeden breifat wedi cwympo ar Heol Gilfach, Castell-nedd, ond mae’r gwreiddiau wedi difrodi’r llwybr troed sy’n cael ei wneud yn ddiogel ac mae coeden arall gerllaw wedi cael ei chlirio. Mae lluwch wrth y fynedfa i’r Gnoll wedi cael ei glirio ac mae ffawydden fawr a oedd wedi cwympo yn cael ei chlirio ar hyn o bryd.
Ystyriwch a yw eich taith yn wirioneddol angenrheidiol cyn teithio heddiw a byddwch yn ddiogel.

Mewn enghraifft arall o wasanaethau cyhoeddus ar eu gorau, llwyddodd staff Gofal Cartref Cyngor CNPT i gynnal eu holl ymweliadau gofal cartref neithiwr (1/3/18). Defnyddiodd y timau gerbydau 4x4 i gyrraedd ardaloedd anghysbell ac aeth rhai gweithwyr allan ar droed er mwyn sicrhau y gwnaed ymweliadau hanfodol.
Gwirfoddolodd rhai Cynorthwywyr Gofal Cymunedol (er eu bod i fod ar eu gwyliau) i gynnal ymweliadau a oedd o fewn pellter cerdded i’w cartrefi ac mae eraill wrth law i gamu i’r adwy os nad yw eu cydweithwyr yn gallu dod i mewn neu os oes rhaid iddynt adael yn gynnar os yw’r tywydd yn gwaethygu.
