A public meeting will be held next week to update residents and businesses on the progress so far and the continuing work to address anti–social behaviour in Neath Town Centre.
The meeting will take place at 6pm on Wednesday 18th April in committee rooms A and B of Neath Civic Centre. There will be free parking from 3pm on the top floor in Neath Multi Storey Car Park, which will remain open until 8.30pm. The council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Public Protection, Councillor Des Davies said:
"The meeting will be an opportunity to update people who live and work in Neath Town Centre on the progress of our Neath Together campaign so far, what is planned over the next few months and how they can play their part in helping us to make sure that Neath continues to be a safe and welcoming place.”
Councillor Stephen Hunt, who will chair the public meeting, added:
“At the last public meeting in June we listened to people’s concerns about anti-social behaviour in Neath Town Centre and we made a commitment to take action and to report back on our progress.
“We will be honouring this commitment at next week’s meeting, when there will also be a chance for people to ask questions and share views on how we can continue to build on the significant progress which has already been made.”
The meeting will include an update on Operation Grey Denver, a major initiative to tackle long-term anti-social behaviour on the streets of Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot.
Inspector Roy Portlock, South Wales Police said:
“As part of our commitment to safeguard all our communities in Neath, South Wales Police launched Operation Grey Denver in the summer. This activity worked to address the anti-social behaviour in Neath and enabled us, along with our partners, to signpost and support the homeless and vulnerable community within the town to further help. Ultimately we all want to Neath to be a more vibrant, safer and successful place to live, work and visit."
This will be followed by updates from Neath Inspired and the Neath Business Crime Reduction Partnership, together with a discussion on the possible introduction of a diverted giving scheme, whereby people can be sure that their donations will help to support charities working in the area on a practical level.
A wide range of agencies have been involved in the Neath Together campaign including Neath Port Talbot Council, South Wales Police, Neath Inspired BID, homelessness charities Caer Las and the Wallich, the Salvation Army, traders, business organisations, WCADA (Welsh Centre for Action on Dependency and Addiction), the Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust and the Business Crime Reduction Unit.
