Neath Port Talbot Council is set to undertake a review of its Single Person Discount for Council Tax to ensure that only residents who are entitled to are claiming the 25% discount.
Single Person Discount can be claimed when a resident is the sole adult occupant of the property and the scheme is reviewed regularly to detect those who are claiming a discount that they are no longer eligible for.
To ensure records are kept up to date the Council will shortly be sending residents who receive the Single Person Discount a letter asking for them to confirm their current circumstances and notify us if there have been any changes.
Residents who receive the letter but do not respond will have their Single Person Discount removed and further investigations may be undertaken.
Cllr Carol Clement-Williams, Cabinet Member for Finance said: “The Council is dedicated to protecting the public purse and detecting fraud, so we are very proactive in confirming all entitlements to discounts. It is not fair on taxpayers in the county borough when a minority are not reporting changes in their circumstances and receive the discount when they are no longer entitled to it.”
“People who are genuinely entitled to the single person discount have nothing to worry about and we would like to thank residents for their on-going cooperation throughout this exercise.”

Y cyngor i adolygu Gostyngiad Treth y Cyngor i Bobl Sengl
Mae Cyngor Castell-nedd Port Talbot yn bwriadu adolygu ei Ostyngiad Treth y Cyngor i Bobl Sengl i sicrhau mai preswylwyr cymwys yn unig sy'n hawlio'r gostyngiad o 25%.
Gall Gostyngiad Person Sengl gael ei hawlio pan mai trigolyn yw'r unig oedolyn sy'n byw yn yr eiddo ac mae'r cynllun yn cael ei adolygu'n rheolaidd er mwyn datgelu'r rheiny sy'n hawlio gostyngiad nad ydynt yn gymwys ar ei gyfer mwyach.
Er mwyn sicrhau bod cofnodion yn cael eu diweddaru, bydd y cyngor yn anfon llythyrau at drigolion sy'n derbyn y Gostyngiad Person Sengl yn fuan gan ofyn iddynt gadarnhau eu hamgylchiadau cyfredol a'n hysbysu a gafwyd unrhyw newidiadau.
Bydd preswylwyr sy'n derbyn y llythyr ond nid ydynt yn ymateb yn colli eu Gostyngiad Person Sengl a gall ymchwiliadau pellach gael eu cynnal.
Meddai'r Cyng. Carol Clement-Williams, Aelod y Cabinet dros Gyllid, "Mae'r cyngor yn ymroddedig i amddiffyn cyllid cyhoeddus a datgelu twyll, felly rydym yn rhagweithiol wrth gadarnhau pob hawliad i ostyngiadau. Nid yw'n deg i drethdalwyr y fwrdeistref sirol pan na fydd lleiafrif yn adrodd am newidiadau yn eu hamgylchiadau ac yn derbyn y gostyngiad pan nad ydynt yn gymwys i'w hawlio mwyach."
"Nid oes gan bobl sy'n hawlio'r gostyngiad person sengl yn gywir unrhyw beth i boeni amdano a hoffwn ddiolch i breswylwyr am eu cydweithrediad parhaus drwy gydol yr ymarfer hwn."
I gael mwy o wybodaeth am Dreth y Cyngor megis sut i adrodd am newid cyfeiriad, trefnu debyd uniongyrchol, ceisiadau ar-lein gan gynnwys meini prawf cymhwysedd ar gyfer gostyngiadau ac eithriadau, ewch i: www.npt.gov.uk/counciltax
