An agreement between Wales and West Utilities and Neath Port Talbot Council will see the provision of a free shuttle bus service during a road closure along Llantwit Road, Neath.
To enable the replacement of gas mains lying underneath, it will be necessary to close Llantwit Road to vehicles, in both directions, between the junctions of Pen y Dre and Digby Road.
The works, which begin on Monday 15th April, are expected to take around three weeks to complete, and the road closure will be in place for the duration of the works.
The First Cymru X7 bus service will not operate between Tonna Hospital and Llantwit during this time. However, following negotiations, a replacement shuttle bus service will be provided by Wales and West Utilities for the duration of the closure.
The shuttle service will start from the junction of Fairyland Rd at Llantwit Cemetery, stopping at all designated bus stops up to Tonna Hospital, with no fares taken for travel on this vehicle.
Passengers who wish to travel onward towards Neath or Glynneath can then catch the First Cymru X7 service, which will be subject to the usual fares.
The shuttle service vehicle will meet all returning passengers on the X7 at Tonna Hospital and transport back down to Llantwit Cemetery.
A timetable has been produced for the shuttle service and will be displayed at all bus stops along the affected area between Llantwit Cemetery and Tonna.
The replacement shuttle service will not be operating on Sundays or Bank Holiday Monday.
Cllr Ted Latham, Cabinet Member for Streetscene and Engineering said: “The Council recognises that road closures can be disruptive and will always aim to minimise their impact as much as possible. We are therefore glad that in this instance Wales and West Utilities have agreed to provide a replacement shuttle bus service whilst they undertake essential works at Llantwit Road.”

Bydd cytundeb rhwng Wales and West Utilities a Chyngor Castell-nedd Port Talbot yn darparu gwasanaeth bws gwennol am ddim tra bydd Heol Llanilltud Fach, Castell-nedd ar gau.
Er mwyn gallu ailosod prif bibellau nwy o dan y ffordd, bydd angen cau Heol Llanilltud Fach i gerbydau, i'r ddau gyfeiriad, rhwng cyffyrdd Pen y Dre a Heol Digby.
Disgwylir i'r gwaith, sy'n dechrau ddydd Llun 15 Ebrill, gymryd tua thair wythnos i'w gwblhau, a bydd y ffordd ar gau yn ystod y cyfnod hwn.
Ni fydd gwasanaeth bws First Cymru X7 yn gweithredu rhwng Ysbyty Tonna a Llanilltud Fach yn ystod y cyfnod hwn. Fodd bynnag, yn dilyn trafodaethau, bydd Wales and West Utilities yn darparu gwasanaeth bws gwennol yn lle’r gwasanaeth arferol tra bydd y ffordd ar gau.
Bydd y gwasanaeth gwennol yn dechrau o gyffordd Heol Fairyland ger Mynwent Llanilltud Fach, gan stopio ym mhob safle bws dynodedig hyd at Ysbyty Tonna, ac ni fydd yn rhaid talu i deithio ar y cerbyd hwn.
Gall teithwyr sy'n dymuno teithio ymlaen tuag at Gastell-nedd neu Lyn-nedd, ddefnyddio gwasanaeth First Cymru X7 wedyn, a fydd yn codi'r prisiau arferol.
Bydd cerbyd y gwasanaeth gwennol yn cwrdd â'r holl deithwyr sy'n dychwelyd ar yr X7 ger Ysbyty Tonna ac yn eu cludo yn ôl i Fynwent Llanilltud Fach.
Lluniwyd amserlen ar gyfer y gwasanaeth gwennol a chaiff ei harddangos ym mhob safle bws yn yr ardal yr effeithir arni rhwng Mynwent Llanilltud Fach a Thonna.
Ni fydd y gwasanaeth gwennol yn gweithredu ar ddydd Sul nac ar ddydd Llun Gwyl y Banc.
Meddai'r Cynghorydd Ted Latham, Aelod y Cabinet dros y Strydlun a Pheirianneg, “Mae'r cyngor yn cydnabod y gall cau ffyrdd fod yn aflonyddgar a bydd bob amser yn ceisio lleihau effaith hyn gymaint â phosibl. Felly, rydym yn falch bod Wales and West Utilities wedi cytuno i ddarparu gwasanaeth bws gwennol tra bydd yn ymgymryd â gwaith hanfodol yn Heol Llanilltud Fach.”
