A Neath Port Talbot school has won the overall prize in a nationwide film making competition run by the Bank of England.
Film loving pupils at Crynallt Primary School in Cimla, Neath, put together an animated movie on the subject of Climate Change and entered it into the competition, entitled Bank, Action, Camera.
After competition judges viewed it to be the best from entries received from schools across the UK, the Crynallt Primary School film making team was awarded a trophy plus £1,000 for the school to spend on film making resources.
Each of the children involved also won £50 Amazon vouchers.
A spokeswoman for the Bank of England said: “The fact that students produced such a creative film is a great credit to them and they should feel very proud. We appreciate the dedication and hard work of the teachers and students involved, including those who assisted behind the scenes.”
School Head Teacher Helen Woodford added: “Film has become an important part of the curriculum in Crynallt with all the Key Stage 2 classes learning about film making, script writing and producing each year.
“We also have a thriving Film Club whose members decided to use their skills to enter the Bank of England film competition this year. The theme of the film was The Environment so the school's Eco Club worked alongside their friends to produce animations with an environmental theme.
“The children have loved taking part in the film project and their enthusiasm was shown throughout. We were very impressed by the idea they came up with, their creativity and their ability to work independently.
“By combining both clubs it gave the children the opportunity to share their skills and knowledge with each other and they have created a fantastic film. We are so proud of them all.”
Quotes from the pupils involved in making the film:
'I found out a lot about what causes climate change and what we can do to stop it.' Harrison
'I enjoyed working with film club as I learnt a lot about stop motion.' Madeline
'I enjoyed working in a group and making new friends.' Ruby
'I like that we combined Film Club and Eco Club together and worked as a group. We were able to share skills with each other.' Lexie
Neath Port Talbot Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Culture, Cllr Peter Rees, who is also Chairman of Governors at the school, said: “I’d like, on behalf of the authority, to congratulate the pupils involved in putting together this winning film. There is obviously a lot of talent at Crynallt Primary School.”
Two teachers supported the children in making the film, Cath Neal, who runs the school’s Eco Club and Alice Clemes, who is in charge of developing film across the school curriculum.
