Workers in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot are being reminded about the importance of following Covid-19 guidance on their way to and from work, as well as during breaks.
The message comes after contact tracers for the region found a number of cases where people were following the Covid-19 guidelines while working, but not when car sharing or socialising with other colleagues during breaks from work such as in a canteen or cafe.
Coronavirus spreads easily in small, enclosed spaces like vans and cars and the Welsh Government recommends that people should avoid car sharing if possible. Where this is not possible there are a number of measures that can help reduce the risk of transmission. These include wearing a face-covering because keeping two-metres apart is likely to be difficult, opening windows to let the air circulate, sitting as far apart as possible, avoiding facing each other, and keeping frequently touched areas like the steering wheel and door handles clean.
Dr Keith Reid, Executive Director for Public Health for the Swansea Bay area, said:
“It is important to remember that co-workers do not count as members of your own household, so there are a number of steps that everyone must take to minimise exposure to Covid-19.
“The most effective way to do this is to work from home, some or all of the time. Where this is not possible, you must do everything you can to maintain physical and social distancing from people you don’t live with, whilst working and during breaks.
“There are other reasonable measures to minimise exposure to COVID-19 that workers should practice. These include the correct use of PPE and face coverings in indoor spaces where maintaining a 2m distance is difficult, limiting the level of face-to-face interaction and using physical barriers.
“It is also essential that we all continue with thorough hygiene and environmental cleanliness, such as washing hands well for 20 seconds with soap and drying thoroughly, or using alcohol based hand gels, before and after close contact.”
Anyone displaying Covid symptoms, however mild, must not go into work, but must take immediate action to self-isolate at home and get a test. The household where they live must self-isolate as well. If anyone else in the household shows symptoms, they must get a test. If tests are positive a contact tracer will be in touch to advise on what happens next. Those who ignore this advice and later test positive could spread the virus without even knowing and Covid-19 can kill.
The main symptoms are: a high temperature/a new, continuous cough/or loss of taste or smell. For more information about getting a test go to

Peidiwch â diystyru COVID - neges i weithwyr
Atgoffir gweithwyr yn Abertawe a Chastell-nedd Port Talbot am bwysigrwydd dilyn arweiniad COVID-19 ar eu ffordd i'r gwaith ac oddi yno, yn ogystal ag yn ystod seibiannau.
Daw’r neges ar ôl i swyddogion olrhain y rhanbarth ddod o hyd i nifer o achosion lle'r oedd pobl yn dilyn canllawiau COVID-19 wrth weithio, ond nid wrth rannu ceir neu gymdeithasu â chydweithwyr eraill yn ystod seibiannau o’r gwaith, fel mewn ffreutur neu gaffi.
Mae Coronafeirws yn ymledu'n hawdd mewn lleoedd bach caeëdig fel faniau a cheir ac mae Llywodraeth Cymru yn argymell y dylai pobl osgoi rhannu ceir os yn bosib. Lle nad yw hyn yn bosib mae nifer o fesurau a all helpu i leihau'r risg o drosglwyddo. Mae'r rhain yn cynnwys gwisgo gorchudd wyneb oherwydd mae'n debyg y bydd cadw dau fetr ar wahân yn anodd, agor ffenestri i adael i'r aer gylchdroi, eistedd mor bell oddi wrth eich gilydd â phosib, osgoi wynebu eich gilydd, a chadw ardaloedd sydd wedi'u cyffwrdd yn aml, fel yr olwyn lywio a dolenni drysau, yn lân.
Meddai Dr Keith Reid, Cyfarwyddwr Gweithredol Iechyd Cyhoeddus ar gyfer ardal Bae Abertawe,
"Mae’n bwysig cofio nad yw cydweithwyr yn cyfrif fel aelodau o’ch aelwyd eich hun, felly mae nifer o gamau y mae’n rhaid i bawb eu cymryd i leihau’r cysylltiad â COVID-19.
"Y ffordd fwyaf effeithiol o wneud hyn yw gweithio gartref, rywfaint o'r amser neu drwy'r amser. Lle nad yw hyn yn bosib, rhaid i chi wneud popeth o fewn eich gallu i gadw pellter corfforol a chymdeithasol oddi wrth bobl nad ydych chi'n byw gyda nhw, wrth weithio ac yn ystod seibiannau.
"Mae mesurau rhesymol eraill i leihau’r cysylltiad â COVID-19 y dylai gweithwyr eu hymarfer. Mae'r rhain yn cynnwys defnyddio cyfarpar amddiffyn personol a gorchuddion wyneb yn gywir mewn mannau dan do lle mae'n anodd cadw pellter 2 fetr, cyfyngu ar lefel y rhyngweithio wyneb yn wyneb a defnyddio rhwystrau corfforol.
"Mae hefyd yn hanfodol ein bod ni i gyd yn parhau i gynnal hylendid a glendid amgylcheddol, fel golchi dwylo’n dda am 20 eiliad gyda sebon a sychu eich dwylo’n drylwyr, neu ddefnyddio hylifau diheintio dwylo sy’n cynnwys alcohol, cyn ac ar ôl cysylltiad agos."
Ni ddylai unrhyw un sy'n dangos symptomau COVID, ni waeth pa mor ysgafn, fynd i'r gwaith, ond rhaid iddynt gymryd camau ar unwaith i hunanynysu gartref a chael prawf. Mae'n rhaid i'r aelwyd lle maen nhw'n byw hunanynysu hefyd. Os oes unrhyw un arall yn yr aelwyd yn dangos symptomau, mae'n rhaid iddynt gael prawf. Os yw canlyniad prawf yn bositif bydd swyddog olrhain cysylltiadau’n cysylltu â chi i'ch cynghori ar yr hyn sy’n digwydd nesaf. Gallai'r rheini sy'n anwybyddu'r cyngor hwn ac sy'n profi'n bositif yn ddiweddarach ymledu'r feirws heb wybod eich bod wedi gwneud hynny a gall COVID-19 ladd.
Y prif symptomau yw: tymheredd uchel/peswch newydd parhaus/neu colli'ch synnwyr blasu neu arogli. Am ragor o wybodaeth am sut i gael prawf ewch i
