White Ribbon day takes place on 25th November each year, but organisations across the county borough have been staging events throughout the month.
The Domestic Abuse One Stop Shop held a craft stall and coffee morning in the main foyer of Neath Civic Centre on Friday 24th November from 10pm-1pm. All proceeds will go to the White Ribbon Campaign. Calan DVS had a “Breaking the cycle” display at Neath Civic during the week of week commencing 20th November and The Community Safety Team also made resources and information available at the ‘Leading Ladies Do Christmas’ show at the Princess Royal Theatre in Port Talbot on 25th November.
Neath Port Talbot Council Leader, Cllr. Rob Jones said:
“The Council fully supports the White Ribbon campaign as an important initiative to raise awareness of gender based violence and I would urge people in our communities to wear a white ribbon to show their support.
“Our message in Neath Port Talbot is that no act of violence is acceptable and that everyone has the right to a life without violence, whether male or female and regardless of age, gender identity, sexual orientation or culture”
Councillor Alan Lockyer, Chair of the NPT Violence Against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Leadership Group added:
“Increasing awareness and challenging attitudes of Violence Against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence in the county borough is one of the objectives in our Healthy Relationships for Stronger Communities Strategy. As such the Safer Neath Port Talbot Community Safety Partnership works hard every day to tackle this issue.
“Initiatives such as the White Ribbon Campaign are invaluable in helping to further raise awareness of the issues and the support that is available.”
More information on about events and support can be found on the Community Safety Team’s Facebook page, Safer Neath Port Talbot. White ribbons are available from the Neath Port Talbot Community Safety Team, the Domestic Abuse One Stop Shop in Neath and the Civic Centres in Neath and Port Talbot.

"Mae'r cyngor yn hollol gefnogol o Ymgyrch y Rhuban Gwyn fel menter bwysig sy'n cynyddu ymwybyddiaeth o drais sy'n seiliedig ar rywedd ac rwy'n annog pobl yn ein cymunedau i wisgo'r rhuban gwyn i ddangos eu cefnogaeth.
"Ein neges yng Nghastell-nedd Port Talbot yw nid yw unrhyw weithred dreisgar yn dderbyniol, ac mae gan bawb yr hawl i fywyd heb drais, boed yn ddynion neu'n fenywod, ni waeth beth yw ei oedran, hunaniaeth rhyw, tueddfryd rhywiol neu ddiwylliant".
Ychwanegodd y Cynghorydd Alan Lockyer, Cadeirydd Grwp Arweinyddiaeth Diddymu Trais yn erbyn Menywod, Cam-drin Domestig a Thrais Rhywiol CNPT,
"Mae cynyddu ymwybyddiaeth a herio agweddau ar Drais yn erbyn Menywod, Cam-drin Domestig a Thrais Rhywiol yn y fwrdeistref sirol yn un o amcanion ein Strategaeth Perthnasoedd Iach ar gyfer Cymunedau Cryfach.
