Tickets are now available for the Mayor of Neath Port Talbot’s Armed Forces Festival Concert next month. The concert will be the closing event at the Festival on Saturday 20th October, which is being supported by Swansea Sound.
Mayor of Neath Port Talbot, Councillor Dennis Keogh said:
"The concert is going to be a really special evening to honour the contribution of the Armed Forces and civilians in Neath Port Talbot, with a focus on the First World War. It will commemorate the fallen and celebrate the camaraderie of the time and be a way to say thank you to those who have served their country.
“I hope people will come along and support the event to pay tribute to the brave men and women who give so much to preserve our liberty.”
Headlining on the evening will be Neath singer Kirsten Orsborn, who is well known for her charity work, especially for causes linked to the military. Such is Kirsten’s commitment that The Swansea Royal Marines have officially adopted her as their own ‘forces sweetheart’. Kirsten will perform a number of popular vintage songs and lead the audience in community singing of wartime First World War classics such as ‘It’s a long way to Tipperary’, ‘Keep the home fires burning’ and ‘Pack up your troubles’.
Also on the programme will be the 215 Squadron Air Training Corps Band and the City of Swansea Pipe Band, all under the expert watch of well-known local actor and director Brian Sullivan, who will act as master of ceremonies. The evening will end with the last post and thousands of falling poppies, the official emblem of remembrance.
Tickets for the concert cost £10 each and can be purchased from the Princess Royal Theatre or online at www.npttheatres.co.uk/princessroyal.
As well as the concert the Festival will include a display of military vehicles in Port Talbot’s Civic Square, the launch of the Poppy Appeal and the opening of the Port Talbot Branch of the Royal British Legion’s Garden of Remembrance in Aberafan Shopping Centre. There will also be a flag raising ceremony to open the festival and displays in the Princess Royal Theatre. At 11.20am a plaque will be unveiled in the Memorial Park in Taibach to mark it as a ‘Field in Trust’ to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World war One. All daytime events will be free of charge.
